Reading these quotes and educating myself about financial freedom has helped me take control of my finances and build up my savings and investments.
In this post, I will share some of the best money quotes that helped motivate me on my journey to create financial freedom.
This post is all about financial freedom quotes.
Financial Freedom Meaning
Before we get into these inspirational quotes, let’s define what financial freedom means. The definition of financial freedom may differ for some people depending on which stage of life they are in.
To me, it means having enough savings and investments built up to afford to live the kind of lifestyle you want without worrying about how you will pay your bills and maintain your lifestyle.
It also means that you are prepared for the unexpected, you have no debt and you have invested in assets that will continue to make you money. You have complete control over your finances and are not worried about what-ifs because you have all bases covered.
To achieve financial freedom you need to be disciplined with your money and make smart choices. For example, you need to live below your means, pay off any debt, save a lot and stick to a budget.
Now that we know the definition, let’s get into these powerful financial freedom quotes to inspire you.
Inspirational Financial Freedom Quotes:
1. “Financial freedom is available to those who learn about it and work for it.” Robert Kiyosaki
If you want to change your financial circumstances, you need to educate yourself about money. You can’t rely on someone else to teach you about money and how to create wealth. It’s up to you to take control.
Invest your time in learning about how to create different income streams and how to grow your money. You can do this by reading books, watching documentaries, listening to podcasts or speaking to people who are where you want to be. This information will in turn help you improve your finances and create freedom.
Once you have this information you need to take action. If you want to achieve more than the average person, you will need to work harder than the average person. Hard work, consistency and patience will help you achieve your goals.
2. “The goal isn’t more money. The goal is living life on your terms.” Chris Brogan
Financial freedom is about more than making a lot of money. It is about having the freedom to make decisions without worrying about money.
It may sound dreamy and far-fetched but it is possible to create financial freedom and live a fulfilling life that makes you happy. You don’t necessarily have to be rich to attain this.
The key is determining what freedom means to you and taking action to help you achieve it. For example, for me, financial freedom means having the option to take time off work and travel without worrying about paying my bills. I was able to achieve this by living a frugal lifestyle, saving a lot and investing my money.
Think about what financial freedom means to you and map out the steps you need to take to get there. For example, if you have consumer debt you need to make paying it off a priority because that will free up more money to save.
3. “Don’t save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving.” Warren Buffet
This is the definition of paying yourself first. When you get paid it is important to prioritise saving, investing and paying your bills first. If you have money left over you can spend it guilt free. It shouldn’t be the other way around.
To achieve financial freedom it is important to change your mindset and prioritise saving. You want to make smart decisions with your money and ensure that your spending is in line with your long-term goals.
If you struggle with saving money having a budget in place will help you. A budget is essentially a plan for your money, it will give your money direction. If you create a budget that is right for you, you will be able to save and still spend money on the things you enjoy.

4. “Financial peace isn’t the acquisition of stuff. It’s learning to live on less than you make, so you can give back and have money to invest. You can’t win until you do this.” Dave Ramsey
Living below your means and adopting a frugal lifestyle will give you financial peace and ultimately help you achieve financial freedom. If you spend more than you make you will end up in the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck and working just to survive.
Living on less than you make doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all of the things you enjoy in life. You can still enjoy the fruits of your labour while you are working towards your financial goals. For example, if you like to go shopping you can include an amount for this in your budget and shop during sales.
I think it is important to have balance in your life so having stuff is okay, but it shouldn’t be the priority. Your financial goals should be the priority and your spending should align with those goals.

5. “The single most powerful asset we have is our mind. If trained well, it can create enormous wealth.” Robert Kiyosaki
Your mind is your most valuable asset, everything begins in the mind. If you want to create financial freedom you need to change your mindset and think like those who are wealthy.
Wealth is equated to money, but that isn’t the only factor. Knowledge and wisdom play a part in wealth so you need to be mindful about the information you consume.
If you don’t know how to make more money, make it your business to consume information about how to make money. We live in the age of information, you can read books, watch videos, read blogs, etc to learn.
Consuming this information will expand your mindset and before you know it you will start to have ideas about side hustles you can start and eventually build a business. This is the power of your mind, if you invest time in educating yourself you will create wealth.
6. “Wealth is not about having a lot of money, it’s about having a lot of options” Chris Rock
Having a lot of money gives you options. You get to decide where you live, the type of food you eat, which vacations to go on, etc. This is freedom. You want to be able to make choices based on what you want to do not what you have to do.
Creating wealth and having financial freedom will allow you to have plenty of options. To get there you need to focus on saving and growing your money.
7. “If you buy things you don’t need, soon you will have to sell things you need.” Warren Buffet
Frivolous spending can deter you from reaching financial freedom. You need to get your spending habits under control if you want to achieve your money goals.
Focus on spending money on needs and things that bring you value. If you don’t need it and it doesn’t bring you value then you shouldn’t buy it. Adopting this mindset will help you to save money and reach your goals faster.
8. “The more you learn the more you’ll earn.” Warren Buffet
Knowledge is power. If you invest in your personal development you will learn skills to help you make better decisions and become a better person. Investing in continuous learning will pay you a lifetime of dividends.
9. “Financial freedom is not a retirement strategy, it’s a savings strategy.” Unknown
To attain financial freedom you need to ensure that you have enough money set aside to afford your lifestyle without working. The easiest way to get there is by prioritising saving and investing your money.
10. “If you want to go somewhere, it is best to find someone who has already been there.” Robert Kiyosaki
If you want to learn a new skill or start a business learning from others will help you get there. Doing research and learning on your own is great and there is a time for that. But learning from someone who has already done it is a smart way to get the same results faster.
By doing this you can learn from the mistakes of others and get insights on what you can do better.
You can learn from mentors who have already achieved the goals you are working towards. If you don’t have a mentor you can watch YouTube videos of people who are sharing their journey or you can take a course.
Taking a course or paying for a coach will cost you money, but the return on that investment is priceless.
11. “If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep you will work until you die.” Warren Buffet
This is one of my favourite Warren Buffet quotes. The first time I heard it my mind was blown because I didn’t know anything about the stock market and passive income. Now, I have built an investment portfolio and I make money while I sleep.
Working a full-time job or having a business where you exchange time for money is fine, it is how most people get started making money. But to create financial freedom you need to find ways to make passive income.
You need to invest in assets that will grow in value and make you money. For example, stocks, property and art. Or you can create a digital product like a printable or a course that can be sold continuously and make money. This is how you make money while you sleep.
This type of income is powerful. Once you put in the initial investment to acquire the asset or make the product it doesn’t require a lot of effort to maintain it. When you have this in place you will be closer to creating financial freedom.
12. “The real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money.” Unknown
One important thing to learn about money is that it doesn’t define you. What defines you is your mindset, the way you treat others and the value you bring.
If you measured your worth by the amount of money you make and you lost it you would be worthless. On the other hand, if you measure your worth by the value you give to others you would still be worth the same if you lost all your money.
Also, if you prioritised continuous learning on your journey to build wealth and you lost it you would be able to use the skills you have learned to create more wealth.
Your mindset and your values are just as important when it comes to creating financial freedom and no dollar amount can replace that.
13. “The poor and middle-class work for money. The rich have money work for them.” Robert Kiyosaki
After reading Robert Kiyosaki’s book Rich Dad Poor Dad I really understood the way rich people think about money.
Most people including myself have been conditioned to think that the only way to make money is by working for it.
But that isn’t true. Working a full-time job is fine especially if you enjoy what you do, but to create financial freedom you need to find ways to make money work for you.
You can do this by creating passive income or starting a business or side hustle. I understand that starting a business isn’t for everyone so if that isn’t for you, you can invest your money in income-producing assets.
14. “You either master money, or, on some level money masters you.” Tony Robbins
Money is powerful, but if you learn to use it as a tool and develop good money habits you will be able to make smart choices with your money and create financial freedom.
15. “Financial freedom is freedom of fear.” Robert Kiyosaki
Have you been scared to open your bills and check your bank balance? Being stuck financially can be daunting and create fear.
Deciding to face your fears and work towards improving your financial situation is the first step to creating financial freedom.
Open your bills, check your account balances and make a list of the debt you have. This will help you to create a plan to improve your finances.
16. “Working because you want to and not because you have to is financial freedom.” Tony Robbins
Some people are fortunate enough to find careers that they enjoy, but the majority of people are working because they have to make money to survive.
Once you have set yourself up financially by building your savings and creating passive income, working becomes a choice.
If you put yourself in a situation where you are working just because you enjoy what you do that is true financial freedom.
17. “Financial security and independence are like a three legged stool resting on savings, insurance, and investments.” Brian Tracey
If you focus on growing your savings, investing in assets and having insurance in place for protection you will create financial freedom and have the ability to live life on your terms. Having financial peace and the freedom to do what you want with your time is priceless.
18. “Whatever your income, always live below your means.” Thomas J Stanley
If you spend more money than you make you won’t be able to save and will always have to work to survive.
Just because you make a lot of money, doesn’t mean you have to live a lavish lifestyle. When you think about the wealthiest people in the world like Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffet they have a similar mindset.
Their mindset is focused on the long term, taking calculated risks, and making smart choices with their money. You don’t see them driving flashy cars and wearing expensive jewellery.
The biggest lesson I learned when I got myself out of debt was to always live below my means and when my income increases don’t increase my expenses. If you can have the discipline to do the same you will build wealth and in time create financial freedom.
19. “Never depend on a single income. Make an investment to create a second source.” Warren Buffet
Having one source of income is one step away from being broke. If you live paycheck to paycheck and lose your job you will end up getting yourself into debt. This is why saving is so important on your journey to building wealth.
You can create a second source of income by starting a side hustle, creating a business or investing in income-producing assets. Choose the best option for you and work hard towards building it up.
Working a full-time job can make you a lot of money, but to build wealth and create financial freedom you need to have more than one source of income.
20. “Financial freedom’s my only hope. F*uck living rich and dying broke.” Jay Z
I love this quote because it highlights the evolution of Jay Z and his mindset towards money. He has shifted towards building businesses and investing in assets like art and businesses which will continue to generate money for him and his children.
Living a life of luxury is cool, but making investments that will generate wealth and leave a generous legacy is how you create financial freedom.
