When I first embarked on my journey to create financial freedom I was constantly reading books and money mindset quotes for inspiration.
Having the right mindset towards money is critical in reaching your goals. If you don’t have the right mindset you can easily fall into bad habits and give up when things get tough.
Reading these quotes and educating myself about money has helped me learn how to manage my money, save money and build an investment portfolio.
In this post, I will share some of the best quotes that helped to motivate me and shift my money mindset.
This post is all about money mindset quotes.
Inspirational Money Mindset Quotes:
1. “The most important investment you can make is in yourself.” Warren Buffet
I love this quote because it highlights the importance of personal development and self-improvement to money.
Investing in assets will offer you a financial return, but investing in your knowledge, and skills, and committing to becoming a better person will pay you a lifetime of dividends.
Knowledge is power! When you prioritise learning whether it be through taking courses, reading books, or from mentors you will become invaluable.
Your mindset will expand which will enhance your ability to make money and also enrich your personal life. This will ensure that you have a lifetime of financial success and happiness.
2. “Money is a tool. It will take you where you wish, but it will never replace you as the driver.” Ayn Rand
This quote serves as a reminder that money isn’t everything. It is important, but it is only a tool. You can use this tool to buy you things but it will never be more valuable than you. Who you are and your value is more important than money.
What money does give you is freedom and the ability to use your time how you wish to use it. Once you start making a lot of money you can hire people to run your business for you so that you can spend time doing the things you want to do.
You can choose to spend more time with your family and use your money to pay for experiences like travel. These are the real benefits of having money.
3. “The art is not in making money, but in keeping it.” Proverb
Making money is the easy part to an extent, it is easier for some than it is for others especially those who were born into wealth. But you can get a traditional job or start a business and make money. The hard part is knowing what to do with your money.
How many times have we seen celebrities who made a lot of money go broke? Or know people who make a good amount of money but live paycheck to paycheck and end up in debt?
This is because they needed to manage their money better. Some of them may not have known how to manage their money while others chose to spend money on material possessions and live above their means.
No matter how much money you make it is important to know how to manage it. You need to prioritise saving, paying off debt, investing and sticking to a budget. If you don’t you will end up in a cycle of working just to survive.
4. “Money is a terrible master but an excellent servant.” P.T. Barnum
As I mentioned earlier money is a tool, but you need to ensure that you have control over the way you utilise it and not the other way around.
It is easy to get caught up in the cycle of working just to make more money instead of enjoying what you do and giving value. But you need to remind yourself that money is a servant in your life and you are in full control.
You can do this by developing a healthy relationship with money, focusing on your financial goals, and spending money on wants instead of needs.
5. “Too many people spend money to buy things they don’t want to impress people they don’t like.” Will Rogers
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why you are making a purchase before you commit to it? A lot of people buy things because they have been influenced to buy it. They have seen someone’s highlight reel on social media and think they need to have the same thing to keep up with them.
When it comes to the way you spend your money you need to ensure that you are spending it on things that you want and will bring value to your life. You don’t need to “keep up with the Joneses”. Stay in your lane, be smart with your money, and focus on your financial goals.
6. “Formal education will make you a living, self-education will make you a fortune.” Jim Rohn
I think we can all agree that the school system has prepared us to get an education and build a career by working a traditional job. I am not saying this is wrong as I have built a career that I love working in finance and I also don’t think being a business owner is for everyone.
But I have found that if you don’t focus on educating yourself outside of formal education you could end up working for someone else forever because you think you don’t have other options.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is self-educate. Teach yourself how to manage your money and how to become a better person. If you commit to learning new skills and prioritise your personal development you will equip yourself with what you need to become rich.
7. “Don’t join the easy crowd, you won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform are high.” Jim Rohn
When you are around people who operate at a high level their energy is infectious, it rubs off on you and makes you want to do the same.
If you are around people who are focused on advancing their careers or building their businesses these are the things they will want to talk about. Through conversations, you will learn strategies to do the same.
Exposing yourself to this environment will encourage you to grow. Naturally, it will inspire you to want to do more. If you do not have friends or family members with this mindset to surround yourself with you can watch them on the internet.
You can watch YouTube videos, interviews, and documentaries of people who are successful or who are on their journey to creating success for themselves. Watching this type of content will inspire you.
8. “Wealth is a mindset. It’s all about how you think. Money is literally attracted to you or repelled from you.” David Schirmer
Your mind is powerful so be careful of what you think. If you tell yourself that you will be wealthy then you will become wealthy. Thoughts attract things so if you focus on the outcome you want you will attract that outcome.
But if you focus on the negative and feel defeated when things don’t work out you will attract more of those feelings. I understand that it is hard to do this when things aren’t going the way you want but in those moments you need to remind yourself of how powerful your mind is.
Wealth isn’t just about how much money you make, it is also about your beliefs about money. If you have an abundant mindset and believe that you will always have enough money this is what you will attract.
9. “If you want to be inventive, you have to be willing to fail.” Jeff Bezos
Failure is a part of success. To be great you must be willing to take risks and think outside the box and sometimes that comes with failure. That can be hard for you to deal with, but the truth is that failure is a part of the process.
If you try something and it doesn’t work out, take the lesson and move on to the next idea. Don’t be crippled by failure.
10. “If you are born poor it’s not your mistake, but if you die poor it’s your mistake.” Bill Gates
Being born into a family that doesn’t have a lot of money is not something you can control. But what you can control is finding ways to change your circumstances. When you become an adult it is up to you to take control of your life and finances, you can’t blame your circumstances for what you don’t have. Pointing the finger won’t change anything, your actions will.
Make it your business to build a career or business that makes you money and learn how to manage your money well.
11. “If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep you will work until you die.” Warren Buffet
This is one of my favourite Warren Buffet quotes. Before I started investing in the stock market the idea of making money while you sleep was fascinating to me. The only way I knew to make money was by exchanging my time.
In short, this quote means you will always have to exchange your time to make money unless you find ways to make passive income.
To make passive income you need to invest in assets that will grow in value and make you money. Assets like stocks and property are good examples of this. Or you can create digital products and sell them continuously to make passive income.
This is the power of passive income. You invest the time or money upfront and you continue to make money from it in the future.
Whether you work a full-time job or you are a business owner you need to find passive income ideas to add to your income streams.
12. “There are only two things you can invest, time and money. Of the two, time is more important.” Robert Kiyosaki
Time is the most valuable asset, you can’t get it back so you need to spend it wisely. Investing time in working towards your goals and building relationships will help you get closer to where you want to go.
13. “The poor and middle-class work for money. The rich have money work for them.” Robert Kiyosaki
Reading Robert Kiyosaki’s book Rich Dad Poor Dad was a game changer for me. It completely shifted my mindset and helped me understand how rich people think about money.
In summary, this powerful money quote means that having a regular job, paying your bills, and owning assets that do not generate money will keep you in the cycle of working to survive. But if you build a business and invest in income-generating assets you will create financial freedom.
As I mentioned earlier being a business owner isn’t for everyone and there is nothing wrong with working a traditional job. Whichever option you choose it is important to invest in assets that will make you money.
14. “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” Walt Disney
Having a good idea and talking about it is great motivation, but the way to get results is by doing the work.
Doing research and planning is helpful, but eventually, you need to start taking action. Even if you are scared, start anyway and you will figure out the rest.
15. “It’s not your salary that makes you rich, it’s your spending habits.” Charles A. Jaffe
No matter how much money you make if you live above your means and don’t manage your money you will lose it.
When you make a lot of money it is easy to fall into the trap of overspending on luxury items and buying things that you want but don’t need. This can lead to you being in debt and living paycheck to paycheck.
You need to remember to prioritise your financial goals and security and maintain healthy spending habits. Creating a budget, paying your bills on time, saving and investing are crucial steps in managing your money well.
16. “A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” Dave Ramsey
Failing to plan is planning to fail, so if you don’t have a plan for your money then you will end up spending it just as fast as it came in and being broke until the next payday.
A budget is a great tool for managing your money and achieving your financial goals. If you have a budget in place you will be able to give your money direction when you get paid.
Creating a budget can seem daunting in the beginning, but it doesn’t have to be. You can create a simple budget that is effective in helping you to reach your goals. Read here to learn how to create a budget.
17. “If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.” Dave Ramsey
This quote emphasises the importance of making sacrifices now to live a life of financial freedom. It can be hard at the beginning when you are learning how to manage your money, but if you stick with it your future self will thank you. You may feel like you are missing out, but trust me you aren’t. You are making smart choices that will benefit you down the line.
If you focus on paying off debt, saving and investing you can build wealth and enjoy a lifestyle that many people can only dream of. You will be able to do this because you have the discipline to live a frugal lifestyle and delay gratification.
The Importance Of Your Mindset To Money
When it comes to money your mindset is the most important part. It sounds simple, but it isn’t always easy. On your journey to build wealth, you need to ensure that you keep your mind in the right place.
This includes working on the way you think about money, being disciplined and committing to doing what it takes to reach your goals. Knowing your why is also very important because this can be your motivation when things get tough.
Once you decide that you want to build wealth you need to stay focused on what matters to you, let go of your limiting money beliefs, forgive yourself for your past financial mistakes and express gratitude. Implementing this will make your journey to creating wealth a lot easier.
